Frameless Glass Balustrade

How Big is a Juliet Balcony?

The width of a Juliet Balcony is determined by the size of the reveal or opening that it is forming a barrier to protect. The height of barrier should be 1100mm. Usually that will require your Juliet balcony itself to be 1100mm. It may be that in certain circumstances your Juliet balcony is installed on a retaining wall where the retaining wall itself can form part of the barrier. We can advise you on this.

The width of the Juliet Balcony will determine the system that you can use. If your balcony is more than 3m in width, it is often the case that you are better fixing beneath the reveal or opening. This ensures that glass is securely fixed along the bottom of the panel.

There are a number of ways to secure the panel beneath your opening. The most common is point fixings. These are used at equal distances across the bottom of the panel of glass. We would recommend that each panel of glass is not more than 1.4m in width.

For wider Juliet balconies there are alterative ways of securing the glass. If you have a fixed frame in your window, our Skyforce frame can be supplied with a center frame which allows you to have two panels of glass spanning the whole of the reveal (see image above).

In short, the answer to how big can your Juliet balcony be is that provided you can get a secure fixing, it can be as big as you would like it to be!
