Our partners at P&P Glass Solutions regularly install glass balustrades on patios. When
fixing any glass balustrade to a patio there are a number of things that need to be taken into
consideration.
The starting point is the look that you want for your patio. Our post and rail system is one of
our most popular solutions. If your balustrade is protecting a fall of 600mm or more from the
patio floor then you should either have a handrail and/or a laminate glass. Our post and rail
system is usually cheaper than our frameless systems as it usually uses thinner, 10mm
glass.
Often our customers want us to powder coat their glass balustrade to match the colour of
their patio doors. This is no problem to do. Just let us know RAL colour and we can arrange
for this to be done.
Often, our customers want to enjoy completely uninterrupted views from their patio. If that is
the case, then the best solution is our frameless systems. This is usually either our
frameless channel or spigot system. Our frameless systems can be installed on to the floor
of your patio. They are usually base fixed through the bottom of the profile although we can
also supply a side fixed profile. Our spigot systems require a 2 x spigots for every meter of
glass.
You should ensure that you can get a secure fixing to your patio. If your patio is made from
timber, we would recommend having a fixing to secure the top of the glass such as a
handrail or a glass stiffener. A small movement at the bottom of the channel can lead to a
far greater movement at the top of the glass. A fixing at the top if the glass, can eliminate this
movement.
